About Stiletto Studio Cakes

The Biz

Stiletto Studio Cakes started baking in 2010, and 14 years on we're one of the longest running cakes shops in Wellington!

People often ask how we started, and the answer is - by accident! I (Becs) started out doing cake pops and themed parties, someone asked me if I thought I could make cakes and I said yes,  and they were my first customer! Everything since then is history. Lots of hard work, lots of luck, (a couple of recessions, a global pandemic, and a couple of kids) and lots of returning and wonderful customers, for which we're very grateful!

Fun facts

  • The name came from a blog that originally had nothing to do with cakes but was actually about my love of shoes (and baking)!

  • We have officially made over 1000 wedding cakes! And estimate close to 6000 celebration cakes over the years

  • We operate out of a fully registered commercial kitchen in the downstairs of my house. My staff can often hear my kids squealing

  •  We affectionately call our cake car "Stu" because the "Stiletto Studio" sign has peeled off so much that "Stu" is all that remains! (yes, we're getting it fixed, eventually!!)

Meet Becs – owner, founder & cake lover

Hey I'm Becs! I'm so glad you've wandered into my little land of cake!

2024 marks my 14th year of making cakes in my adopted home town of Wellington NZ, and you'll find me here with my husband Matt, my not so little boys Sebby and Benny, and probably edible glitter on my face for many years to come.

When I'm not in the kitchen (which let's be honest - isn't often!) you'll find me drinking tea, shopping at Kmart, organising another area of my house (sorry Matt!) or enjoying the heck out of some sunshine.

A little bit about me:

Favourite cake flavour - Hard decision, but white raspberry is the one I always sneak from the scrap bowl!
Favourite cake design - Anything 3D! Or ganache painted flowers
Favourite drink - TEA! Always (followed closely by wine)
Favourite food - Toast (boring, but can't beat it!) or roast chicken
Favourite colour - I think that's pretty obvious from our website, haha!
Least favourite thing - SPIDERS
My first job was - In a video store!
My secret talent is - making up random songs on the spot 
If I could describe myself in one word it would be - tired (lol) or determined
Favourite thing about this job - getting to see peoples faces when they pick up their cakes! and scraps, obviously

Pauline

Pauline has been on the team for nearly 4 years! She came to us from a cake and bread background, and has years of cakes and baking experience. Pauline loves to listen to french music, talk about her cat, and find creative places to splash ganache! When she's not at the studio she's mostly likely to be lying in the sun, crafting, or hanging out with her partner and bebe-on-the-way!

Jemma

Jemma joined the team in 2024 as our (self-titled) admin fairy! With a background in administration, marketing and websites Jemma keeps the invoices typed, the inbox clear, and everyone in the studio on track! Jemma loves buying Frankie 4 shoes, being creative with her own small business, and hanging out with her hubby and two kids.

Brooke

Brooke re-joins us in 2024 after doing her work experience with us in 2021 from the Weltec Patisserie school! Brooke has since been upskilling in the world of cake, and we're so excited to have her back on the team! Brooke's background is in all things cake and patisserie, and she brings with her a love of netball, exploring, and baking!

Favourite thing about this job - learning new techniques while making so many different types of cake designs and being surrounded by great people and LOTS of cake!!

Giving back

It is one of our business values to give back to our community however and whenever we can, and these are some of the ways we do:

  • We run a charity called "Project Elf" which makes and donates cupcakes to families and workers on Christmas Eve. 2023 marked 10 years of this charity! And we're so proud of it. We bake all the cupcakes in house, and have an army of volunteer elves who make and donate beautiful cupcake toppers to decorate them with. Our deliveries include: Wellington hospital (NICU, ICU, A&E, Childrens hospital, cancer wards, burns units), Kenepuru and Hutt hospital A&E, Ronald McDonald house, Fire service, 111 call centre, Police comms, Womens Refuge.   • We run a charity called RGL Small Business Fund which funds the start up costs for small businesses in Kenya

  • We regularly donate cakes, cupcakes and vouchers to a number of charities, school fundraisers, and worthy causes. We also run fundraising cupcake decorating classes! Get in touch if we can support you or your organisation.
